Analysis of Difficulties in “Integrated Design” of Offshore Wind Power Projects

Wind Power Network News: Since my country’s wind power industry began to get involved in offshore projects, the concept of “integrated design” has been widely spread. This term originally derived from the optimized design of European offshore wind power, I believe that whether it is the complete machine supplier, design institute, owner, developer, it has been used or heard more than once on various occasions.

As for the true connotation of “integrated design” and the factors that hinder the realization of the goal of “integrated design” in the design of domestic wind power projects, not everyone who uses this term can make it clear, and even many practitioners consider the realization of “integrated design” “Modernized modeling” is equivalent to the realization of “integrated design”, and there is a lack of exploration of what problems the design solves and optimizes, which is not conducive to achieving tangible results in optimization and cost reduction through “integrated design” in the future.

This article describes some of the objective problems that need to be solved in the direction of “integrated design” in the current offshore wind power industry, in order to enhance the industry’s understanding of this, and propose possible research directions.

The content and meaning of “integrated design”

“Integrated design” is to use offshore wind turbines, supporting structures including towers, foundations, and external environmental conditions (especially wind conditions, sea conditions, and seabed geological conditions) as a unified overall dynamic system for simulation analysis and verification , And optimized design methods. Using this method can not only more comprehensively assess the stress status of offshore wind power equipment systems, improve design safety, but also enhance the industry’s confidence in design schemes. It does not rely on too conservative estimates to ensure design safety and provide design optimization. The space is reduced, which is conducive to the overall cost reduction of the system.
